A Word from ... Pete

The varied and different levels of the meanings of the words BELIEVE and BELIEF closely associated with the words FAITH and TRUST came to mind as I thought of the article for the magazine.

Jean Francois Gravelet, better known as Blondin, became obsessed with the idea of crossing the Niagara River on a tightrope. He asked “Do you believe I could tightrope walk across the Niagara Falls pushing a wheelbarrow?” “Of course” came the reply, “Good, because I need someone to sit in the barrow”. Long pause.

It depends whether it is a superficial head belief or a deep heart conviction for one to get into the wheelbarrow.

Jesus taught his disciples on coming events. In Mark 9.31 He said to them “The son of man is going to be betrayed into the hands of man. They will kill him, and after 3 days he will rise” But they did not understand.

So now the words UNDERSTAND comes into it That’s not even head belief .They’d seen Jesus walk on water, heal the sick and calm the storm so with the information just received they should have been waiting at the tomb to see his resurrection. Look what they had missed.

We can’t be critical of them as they all were killed for what they believed in. The test of the depth of our belief, is do we sit in the barrow or not.

bye for now, Pete.
